ANGUANE
They say that some strange female creatures lived in Borgo Santo, seductive sirens able to charm passers-by , then they turned in front of them in terrible goats footed witches with rattlesnakes hats.
With breasts so big and long to throw them under their shoulders in large baskets where they nursed their babies.
Sometimes you would see them hanging out their clothes on a string tightened between Erio and Verena, or dancing on a string suspended in the void between the mountains around Rivoli.
Of these mythical creatures survives the memory in some wooden statuettes engraved at one time by the artisans of Cadore.
The anguane are not typical only in the folklore of Verona, but also in that of Lombardia and Veneto in general.
