BORN IN VERONA:
The tennis player Giorgio De Stefani
Giorgio De Stefani, born in 1904, was one of the most accomplished Italian tennis players. The origin of this great player? Verona!
Because of his skill he was among the members of the Italian Davis Cup team for fourteen years, playing 66 games with 44 victories. With numerous international meetings, De Stefani was world university champion and often Italian champion. What else to add? The city of Verona always amazes us being home to many famous people born in this territory.
Talent and technique, with a bit of luck for being ambidextrous player. Appointed member of the Executive Committee of the International Lawn Tennis Federation in 1950, he became President from 1955 to 1967. From 1958 to 1969 is also President of FIT (Italian Tennis Federation).
But that is not all! Athletic gold medal, De Stefani was President of the Italian national team since 1971.
Giorgio De Stefani died in Rome on October 22, 1992.
He will remain a good memory.
